Description
Pommery Moutard: The association between Meaux, a town just 41 km from Paris, and mustard has been written in the history books. The city is home to a monastery on the banks of the Marne River. Mustard has been part of its history since Charlemagne ordered the monks to start growing mustard seeds.
The land’s natural siliceous rock was perfect to use as millstones, and later helped create hundreds of mills in the area. Then in the 19th century, J.B. Pommery, a mill owner and mustard merchant, acquired the Chanoines’ secret mustard recipe, which was almost lost in the upheavals during the 20th century. While the family is in its fourth generation, it has continued to focus promoting classic mustard and introducing new varieties of recipes.
Les Assaisonements Briards launched a new line of mustards in 2013. With four new flavors to accompany the classic Pommery mustard and Pommery Lion’s Dijon mustard, these 100g sized condiments are ideal for gift baskets, parties or samples.
Once you try this amazingly smooth and tasty whole-grained mustard from Meaux, you may never go back to Dijon! Mustard from Meaux has been served at the tables of French kings since 1632 and made by the Pommery family according to a closely guarded secret recipe since 1760. The famous 18th century gastronome Brillat-Savarin said "If it isn't Meaux, it isn't mustard."
